Nervous system disorders may consist of the following:

Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) (stroke)

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

There are many more that can be added to this list. You may be familiar with any of these conditions and have witness to individuals that have or are experiencing one of these neurological health conditions. Individuals with nervous system health conditions can be challenged with simple adult daily living skills of

movement and/or memory.   Our stress level increases when our mental and physical abilities are challenged, exercising the body and the brain can help improve the quality of life in the person.  

A study in 2013 used yoga and meditation as a part of a holistic approach and found the patients and caregivers were more relaxed, felt happier and more supported.   Exercise not only improves our fitness marker but can also slows down our mental decline. In the book Quantum Healing by Deepak Chopra M.D. he discusses our mind-body connection and techniques that speak to every cell and even deeper, to every gene. When we learn to accept where we are

and make peace with it, we find strength and the will to change for the better. We began to make small changes, eat better, exercise regularly, and discover we are doing things we’ve wanted to do.

In this class we will touch on some of the nervous system disorders and discuss the many physical and mental challenges involved.  We will perform simple yoga poses that include balance and strength while being mindful of our slow and gentle yoga flow using our mat or a chair. We will finish with a short meditation that has been endorsed through the Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation (Kirtan Kriya).     

Change and growth are part of our nature, let’s not lose sight and move toward wellness. Community sharing and healing can only make us better!
